Internet Web TV or iTunes: which is better?

Posted by – December 1, 2009

During your searches I bet you ran across the popular Apple and their iTunes store.  So now I bet you are wondering which is better: the Internet Web TV which I have grown to love, or the popular Apple iTunes?  Well, both have their ups and downs.  Some of which I will point out right now.  Let’s start with the Apple iTunes.

First off, let me say that iTunes is an awesome product.  I use it myself, but mostly for music.  When it comes to TV Shows or Movies, I have to say it really isn’t worth it sometimes.  Like everything on iTunes you have to purchase it, which can really add up over time.  Although the quality is good, it’s something that I have not really got into.  Also take into consideration is that they also don’t have all the shows that some people will want to watch.  Along with purchasing them, you also have to get a bigger hard drive if you download a lot of them because they do take up a lot of space which can cause issues for you down the road.

Now lets go into Internet Web TV.  The one I use you only have to download a program and run it on your PC.  It does the rest and acts like a normal television would.  Pretty simple, but again you are limited to what’s on TV at the time on the various channels offered.  In the long run, it’s like any other Cable or Satellite service you would get out there.  Plus it’s not that expensive.

So, ultimately I would have to say that for that Internet Web TV has many more benefits that Apple iTunes.  But again as I pointed out, both have their ups and downs.

Getting Internet Web TV – dismissing the rumors.

This is a few quick things I want to clear up on Internet Web TV on your PC.  There are many different rumors that just are not true and i’m hoping this will allow you to make your decision to switch away from your Cable or Satellite TV provider a little easier.

  • Bad Picture – not true at all, unless your computer is horribly old.  Doing something like this on a computer that is from 1998 won’t work well.  You will, unfortunately, need something a little better.  But it also doesn’t need to be incredibly fast either.  I run mine on a Dell laptop that I bought 2 years ago and only paid like $600 for it.  It’s not the best in the world, but it does the job.
  • Bad Sound – also not true.  I found the sound to be just as good as any Cable or Satellite provider.  Hooked up into a normal sound system you shouldn’t be able to tell the difference.
  • Lagging/Pausing – again this depends on your computer.  It will also depend on your internet connection.  I run a 1MB/768K and it works fine with me.  Nice and smooth, no problems.
  • Can Only Watch on PC – another false one I have heard.  The place I got my Internet Web TV from actually shows you how to hook your PC into your TV and sound system.

So in closing, although Internet Web TV is still a new option for people who are looking for a cheaper way to watch television, it is very stable and works well for anyone.
